Frequently Asked Questions – One Coast One Community

What is One Coast One Community?

One Coast One Community is a cross-border environmental initiative that connects communities in San Diego, Tijuana, and Rosarito. It promotes coastal resilience through environmental data analysis, public education, citizen science, and binational collaboration. The program is led by the Permanent Forum of Binational Waters and supported by universities and community organizations.

What is the purpose of the Environmental Data Analysis project?

This project collects and shares real-time environmental data—including water quality, coastal erosion, and biodiversity indicators—along the U.S.–Mexico border. The goal is to support decision-making, empower communities, and enhance sustainable coastal management across the region.

What does the Coast Diagnosis component focus on?

Coast Diagnosis evaluates physical and ecological risks along the binational coastline. It combines field surveys, community insights, and geospatial analysis to better understand threats like sea-level rise, storm impact, and beach degradation.

What is the Water Ecosystems Course?

This free, bilingual 8-week course offers hybrid (online + fieldwork) instruction for students and community members on both sides of the border. It covers water governance, water quality testing, coastal ecosystems, and climate adaptation strategies. Participants work on real-world binational projects and develop practical environmental skills.

Who can enroll in the course and what does it cost?

The course is open to students, educators, youth, and local leaders in both Mexico and the United States. There is no cost to participate. Instruction is delivered in both English and Spanish to ensure accessibility and inclusion.

How can I get involved in citizen science or volunteering?

One Coast One Community offers opportunities for local residents to join scientific monitoring, participate in data collection, and contribute to community-driven coastal solutions. Contact Us to learn how to get involved.

Where can I find environmental data collected by the project?

The Dashboard hosts open-access environmental data from ongoing monitoring efforts. This includes metrics on beach erosion, ecosystem health, and cross-border watershed dynamics.

How to Change my Photo from Admin Dashboard?

Far far away, behind the word mountains, far from the countries Vokalia and Consonantia, there live the blind texts. Separated they live in Bookmarksgrove right at the coast

Is One Coast One Community a nonprofit organization?

Yes. The program is part of the Permanent Forum of Binational Waters, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in the United States and working binationally to address water and coastal challenges.

Can I make a donation to support your work?

Absolutely. Donations help expand community science programs, offer free environmental education, and maintain open data access. All contributions are tax-deductible through the Permanent Forum of Binational Waters.
